Parassala
Sree Mahadeva temple is one of the
foremost centres of worship in south
India and the temple is situated
at the tiny village of parassala
adjoining the Kerala Tamil Nadu
boundary. Here the deity, Lord Siva
is facing the west, which is considered
as a rare phenomenon, and devotees
even from far off places attend
the worship.
|
The temple
is centuries old and the structure is
marvellous with rare architecture in stone
and Parvathy devi and Vighneswara are
the upadevathas. The temple is famous
for its rare rites and ceremonies and
from time immemorial entry was allowed
to all sects in the community irrespective
of caste or creed and significantly arayas
- a backward community have the privilege
of participation for the commencement
of important rituals in the temple from
ancient times onwards and the Lord render
blessings to all irrespective of caste,
colour or creed. Parassala, the holy place
is well-known for communal harmony.
We have pleasure
in drawing your attention to the Athirudra
Maha Yajna held in the temple between
14-1-2000 to 24-1-2000. Thanks to the
generous contributions and co-operation
of the devotees, the yajna, the first
of its kind in the erstwhile Travancore
and Tamil Nadu area became a grand success.
The temple Thanthri Trichur Peringottukara
Kizhakke Cherumukkumana Brahmasree
K. C. Narayanan Namboothiri and his
son Jadhavedan Namboothiri took the
lead for the successful conduct of the
Athirudra Maha Yajna and Maharudra Yajna.

'Sree Rudram'-
the Mahamanthram of Yejur Veda - is
recited in this Supreme Vedic ritual
wherein a team of eleven Vedic Scholars
recite Sreerudram before a Khandam
(Circle) of eleven sacred Kalasams
called 'Rudrakalasam'. Repeating this
eleven times makes it 'Satharudreeyam'
and if this is performed simultaneously
eleven times, it becomes 'Maharudram'.
When the process is repeated for eleven
days it is 'Athirudram'. At the end
of the rituals of Satharudreeyam eleven
Brahma Kalasabhishekams will be offered
to the deity Lord Siva;
|
Simulataneously
there will be special Poojas for Upadevas
and Maha Vishnu. The successful completion
of the religious ritual will definitely
pave the way for assuring a period of prosperity
and peace, protection from natural calamities
and even from incurable diseases especially
to the devotees who participate and also
to the entire society and definitely diffuse
the negative and dangerous manifestation
that plague the citizens of the whole world
today. It is also believed that the desire
of the devotee will be fulfilled within
one year before the beginning of the next
Mahrudra Yajna.
The
Yajna enjoins different sacred rites and
rituals (see pictures below) which are complex
and multifarious and feeding the devotees
who attend the Yajna during the period is
also inevitable and as a whole the ceremony
is highly expensive and requires supervision
of hundreds of persons and the same is the
reason for the rare undertaking of the performance
of the Yajna in other temples especially
in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
After the conduct
of Athirudra Maha Yajna in this temple first
Maharudra Yajna was performed from 14-1-2001
to 24-1-2001, the 2nd from 13-1-2002 to 25-1-2002, the
3rd from14-1-2003 to 26-1-2003, the 4th from
14-1-2004 to 26-1-2004, the 5th from
13-1-2005 to 25-1-2005, the 6th from
14-1-2006 to 26-1-2006, the 7th from
14-1-2007 to 26-1-2007, the 8th from 14-1-2008
to 26-1-2008, the 9th from 13-1-2009
to 25-1-2009. and the tenth Maharudram
is scheduled to be conducted from 13-1-2010
to 25-1-2010. The unstinted Co-operation
and contributions that we have been getting
from the devotees spread far and wide have
encouraged us to take up the herculian task
of organizing the Yajna.
We anticipate
feeding for more than 3 lakh devotees this
time and arrangements have been completed
for the conduct of rituals in the name of
the devotees and the details are given below.
We cordially
invite the devotees to participate in this
extremely great religious ceremony and attain
the blessings of Lord Siva.
We have also
received permission from the Travancore
Devaswom Board for covering the sacred flag
post (Kodimaram) of the temple with gold
on condition that 50% of the cost must be
borne by the devotees. Hence the Devaswom
Board will start work in this connection
immediately after our remitting Rs.20 lakhs
(50% of the cost) at the office of the Devaswom
Board. |
